  12. REQUIREMENTS
  13. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  14. System requirements: Macintosh Plus or later, System 7.0 w/tuner 1.1.1 or later, 4MB RAM recommended, 1MB free hard disk space.
  15. Memory requirements vary based on your preference settings, typically Now Toolbox, NowMenus, NowSave, Super Boomerang and WYSIWYG Menus require approximately 1MB RAM.

  17. INSTALLATION
  18. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  19. Once you have installed Now Utilities by following the steps below, you will have 72 hours to use the software.   You may de-install Now Utilities at any time during the 72 hours by restarting your machine and choosing De-Install from the dialog box that appears at startup.  Now Utilities will automatically de-install itself at the end of the demonstration period by alerting you with a dialog box that it is de-installing and will then remove all Now Utilities components and their preferences from your system.

  21. Follow the steps outlined below to let the Now Installer automatically put all of the necessary files in their correct places on your Macintosh.

  23. 1. Restart your Macintosh while holding down the Shift Key.
  24. This prevents all extensions from loading, which is a good practice when using any Installer application
  25.  
  26. 2.  Insert the Now Utilities Demo disk and double-click the Installer icon.
  27. The Installer scans your hard disk for any previous version of the utilities and displays the installation screen.  To learn more about a utility, position the cursor over the utility and read the information displayed.

  29. 3.  Select the Destination Volume.
  30. You can select any mounted HFS volume that contains a System Folder (System 7), including network volumes.

  32. 4.  Select the utilities you would like to install.
  33. To install all of the utilities, make sure all checkboxes are selected.  Installation of the Demo Now Toolbox is required if you install NowMenus, NowSave, Super Boomerang, WYSIWYG Menus, or Startup Manager.

  35. 5.  Click Install (or Update) to begin the installation.
  36. Once completed, the results of the installation are displayed.
  37.  
  38. 6.  Click Quit.
  39. A message appears indicating that the files will not be loaded until you restart.

  41. 7.  Restart your Macintosh.
  42. One you reach the Finder desktop, you are ready to begin using the Now Utilities.

  44. A complete installation will place items in the following folders on your hard disk:
  45. Now Utilities 4.0.1 Demo:
  46.     Now Profile, Now Scrapbook, Sample Catalog, Sample Movie, 
  47.         this "Before You Install!" file, and the QuickStart Guide.

  59. A)  About Now Utilities...
  60. Under the Apple Menu, we've installed a Now Scrapbook catalog (which is one of the components of Now Utilities) entitled "About Now Utilities...".  Here we have included basic descriptions of each component, and a 3 or 4 step-by-step demonstration of key capabilities.  Each is about a page long and all exercises will take about 15 minutes to complete.  Try each component and you'll have a feel for the power of this package.

  62. B)  QuickStart Guide
  63. If you want to dig deeper, open and/or print the QuickStart Guide.  This document is located in the Now Utilities folder on your hard drive.  It is created in the Microsoft Word v3.0 format.  Most word processors understand and can open this format.  
  64. To open it:
  65.             1)  Locate the QuickStart Guide and double-click to decompress 
  66.                         it from its self-extracting archive.
  67.             2)  Open your word processor application.
  68.             3)  From within your word processor application, open the QuickStart Guide.

  70. C)  The Now Software FaxBack system
  71. If you'd like additional information sent directly to your fax machine, use our automated fax system.  Simply dial 503-274-2810, press # then 5 when the Automated Attendant answers.  You can then choose from a list of documents.  Two documents with more information specific to Now Utilities are:
